We expect all students to have regular attendance except in cases of illness or family emergency. As per Mid-Del Schools District policy, each student must be in attendance 80% of the grading period to receive a passing grade in any subject in which he/she is enrolled. Students in violation of the 80% attendance rule may be retained. At that time, they will be dropped from the program unless we have a completed 2013-2014 application on file. (Only one family application is needed even if there are several children or children at different sites.) Applications are available in the office and from the cafeteria supervisor. Should a student be allergic to milk and require a substitution, a doctor's statement must be on file with the cafeteria supervisor as required by the State Department of Child Nutrition. Parents are welcome to eat breakfast or lunch with their children. For the safety of our students and your children we ask the following: Please eat at the back table with your child and not at the tables with the other students. Your child may have one student guest eat with you also. If you bring preschool children, please keep them at your side at all times. DISCIPLINE Your child's teacher will work very closely with you on any behavior modification plan that is established for your child in the classroom. The Student Expectations: Policies, Procedures, and Safety Guidelines handbook for all Mid-Del Schools will be distributed during the first few weeks. ILLNESS Your child should remain home if they have a fever above 100 degrees, an unexplained rash, diarrhea (more than one runny stool in eight hours), vomiting once or more in 24 hours, pink eye and/or a white-yellow discharge from the eye, or has a colored discharge from their nose. If your child has any of the above, we will call you to come to school to pick up you child. We do not want to jeopardize any other child's health with shared illnesses. If your child has been given a prescription of antibiotics, they must be taking the antibiotics for 24 hours before they can return to school. After 24 hours on antibiotics, they are not contagious. The school should be notified of any possibility of a contagious disease. There is a policy with Rules of Exclusion for contagious diseases. In most incidents, the student may return to school once they are under the care of a doctor. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. The office staff will notify you of an illness or injury at school that needs immediate attention. Please make sure that we have accurate phone numbers and an emergency number that is a reliable contact. LOST AND FOUND Please put names on all objects brought to school. There is an area by the music room where misplaced hats, coats, book bags, lunch pails, etc. are placed. Please encourage your child to check the box for lost items. More valuable misplaced items (watches, billfolds, glasses, etc.) are stored in the office. Items not claimed at the end of the year are donated to charity. PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION You are encouraged to keep in close contact with your child's teacher. The school web page has a teacher page for each teacher. There is a contact form on their web page. If you have access to email this is an excellent source of communication as well as a student management tool. Students will have take home folders or assignment notebooks as well. Do not wait for Parent-Teacher Conference Day to share a concern that is on your mind. We want and need to work together! PHONE CALLS Please limit phone messages to your child to emergencies only . Also, students will be allowed to use the phone for emergencies only. Students will not be allowed to use the phone to have someone bring their homework/book/athletic equipment/etc. to them. We believe that natural consequences help teach responsibility. Teachers will not be called from their classes to answer phone calls. Instead, a message will be taken and the teacher will return the call during their planning times during the day or as soon as possible. STUDENT CHECKOUT Parents must sign a checkout sheet in the school office when a student leaves the building during the school day. The office staff will contact the classroom teacher and the student will be sent to the office at that time. If at all possible, please attempt to schedule appointments outside of the school day. Only persons listed on the student's enrollment card will be allowed to checkout that students. STUDENT IMMUNIZATION HEALTH Oklahoma State Law requires that all minor children present a certificate of completed immunizations prior to attending school. A copy of this record will be kept in the Nurse's Office at Del City Elementary. The school nurse is responsible for conducting hearing, vision, and lice screenings, and monitoring immunization records. STUDENT MEDICATION It is the policy of the Board of Education that if a student is required to take medication during school hours and the parent or guardian cannot be at school to administer the medication, a school nurse, principal, or a designated school employee may administer the medication only as follows: **A prescription medication may be administered only with written request and permission from the parent or guardian. Prescription medication must be in a container that indicates the authorizing physician's name, the student's name, name and strength of medication and dosage and directions for administration. Small containers labeled for school use may be prepared at the pharmacy and left at school for the duration of the illness. **Non-prescription medication will not be administered at school by school personnel. **Medications will be kept in a locked cabinet except medication retained by a student per physician's order. Unused medication will be returned to parent or guardian only. **The school shall keep on file the written authorization of the parent or guardian of the student to administer the prescribed medicine to the student. **The parent or guardian of the student is responsible for informing the designated official of any change in medication. This policy statement will be provided to a parent or guardian upon receipt of a request for long-term administration of medication. STUDENT WITHDRAWAL FROM SCHOOL Please notify the school office several days in advance if you are moving and withdrawing your child from school. This allows sufficient time to process the withdrawal and prepare the student's records for transfer to their new school. All textbooks and library books must be returned and school debts (library fines, etc.) must be paid before a student can be cleared and records released. VISITORS You are welcome to visit us at Del City Elementary School. We do require that when you come to the school during the instructional time of day, that you report to the school office first. All visitors must sign in and receive a Visitor's Badge before going elsewhere in the building. Teachers have been directed to inquire if they see a visitor without a badge. When you do not wear a badge, the staff members do not know who has or has not been to the office. Classroom visitation is encouraged, but please make arrangements with the teacher or principal. This is for the safety and security of our students. NO SMOKING STATUTE The Oklahoma Legislature passed a law that prohibits smoking, the use of snuff, chewing tobacco or any form of tobacco product in the buildings and on the grounds of an educational facility by all persons during school session, or when class or any program established for students is in session. Thank you for your help in following this law. DRESS CODE October 25, 2013 & February 14, 2014 PTA: Please joinDel El PTA. Our PTA is a wonderful group of supportive parents and teachers. |
