Food Allergy Accomodations

According to the Oklahoma State Department of Education School Foodservice Compliance Document (July 2010), "Generally, children with food allergies or intolerances do not have a disability as defined under either Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act or Part B of IDEA, and the school foodservice may, but is not required to, make food substitutions for them. However, when in the licensed physician's assessment, food allergies may result in severe, life-threatening (anaphylactic) reactions, the child's condition would meet the definition of disability and the substitutions prescribed by the licensed physician must be made."

The Child Nutrition Program at Mid-Del Public Schools will make substitutions for these children with severe, life-threatening (anaphylactic) food allergies at no expense to the child. However, we do NOT make substitutions or accommodations for children with mild food allergies or specific food preferences/intolerances (i.e. lactose intolerance). Parents and legal guardians must make their own accomodations for their children with specific food preferences/intolerances. Although, we will make substitutions for children with Celiac disease.

If you would like to request for substitutions to be made for your student, please complete the form below and submit it to your student's school. Food allergy documentation is only valid for the current school year, so please submit new documentation to your child's school at the beginning of each school year.
