Important Information For Parents



Welcome To Highland Park:

 

The purpose of Highland Park Elementary School is to serve the educational needs of children in this community. The following information will help your child experience a more enjoyable and successful year.

 

School Hours:The school day is from 9:00-3:50

Dismissal Times:

3:40 Daycares and Car Riders

3:40   Walkers

Buses: Upon arrival

 

Note:   Please do not drop off students prior to 8:35. Any student that arrives before 8:35 will be required to wait outside. The latchkey program is available for any child that needs early arrival time. At 8:35 students will be admitted to the building to wait in the gym. Students are admitted to class at 8:35. BREAKFAST STUDENTS WILL BE ADMITTED AT 8:20 A.M.

Attendance:

 

Daily student attendance is extremely important. We give many awards for perfect attendance throughout the year to motivate your children. Tardiness will count against students both academically and when awards are given.



Please call to report an absence by 9:00 A.M.

Dress Code:

 

The dress code for Mid-Del is addressed in the Student Expectations Book.  Listed below are answers to some of the common questions regarding appropriate dress.

 

***   No hats or bandanas may be worn.

***   Shirts with spaghetti straps must be covered.

***   No Midriff shirts may be worn.

***   No sagging pants



Meals:

Breakfast is served in our cafeteria from 8:20 until 8:50 A.M.

Lunch is served based on our class schedule. Lunches may be purchased in advance so your child will not have to bring money each day.

Illness or Injuries:

In the event that your child is injured or becomes ill at school, we need clear instructions on how and where to locate help.

Non-prescriptions medications cannot be administered by school personnel.

Please see the office secretary for information on administering prescription medicine.

 

Checking In and Out of School

All students checking in or out of school during the day must check through the office. Students that are tardy must first check in with the secretaries. No child will be permitted to check out with anyone other than those adults listed on the enrollment card. If there is a change in your usual routine of who is picking up you child, please contact the school.

 

Visitors:

All visitors to the school or school grounds must report to the office for a visitor pass. Classroom visitations are encouraged, but please make arrangements with the teacher or principal, for the safety of our students and teachers.

 

Buses:

All students who live over one and a half miles from Highland Park are eligible to ride the bus. Students must be registered to ride the bus and must follow the bus regulations.

 

 

Toys:

Please have your child leave all toys, CD players, Gameboys, etc... at home. The items are distracting in the classroom and there is always the risk of toys being lost or stolen.
