Advanced Placement

The College Board's Advanced Placement Program enables students to complete college level studies at Carl Albert High School.  This program creates an 'academic bridge' which helps transition students from high school to college.  AP courses enrich the experiences of our students who are ready to apply themselves to college lovel courses.  The AP program also creates an opportunity for colleges to grant credit to students with satisfactory AP test scores.  Any student may elect to enroll in AP courses.

Philosophy of Advanced Placement

We believe in the equitable access of all students to the Advanced Placement program.  We work hard to eliminate barriers that traditionally restrict access of students from the AP program such as social, ethnic, and socioeconomic factors.

Benefits of AP

  • AP students are more likely to graduate from college in four years than non AP students
  • AP students earn higher cumulative GPA’s in college than non AP students
  • Students who earn higher AP test scores have higher college GPA’s than students who have lower AP test scores
  • Students who have higher AP test scores have higher 5 year graduation rates than students who score lower on the AP tests
  • Students who take the AP course are more likely to graduate from college than non AP students

National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI)

Carl Albert High School is proud to partner with NMSI with the goal of increasing

  • the number of Carl Albert students who take math, science, and English AP courses
  • the number of Carl Albert students who score a 3 or higher on a math, science, or English AP exam

NMSI is assisting Carl Albert High School in offering monetary incentives to students who meet the guidelines of the NMSI program and pass the AP exam.  NMSI hosts Saturday Study Sessions and provides nationally recognized content specialists to provide additional instruction to our students.  Additionally, NMSI provides intense training and incentives to our AP instructors.

AP participation can impact the cost of college. Click below to read the research.
