 S.T.E.M. Education

S.T.E.M. is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, but it encompasses and incorporates all of the curriculum content areas.  S.T.E.M. has also been accurately described as, “Strategies That Engage Minds.”  It is enhanced, in-depth instructional practices, infused with literacy, that promote exploratory, innovative, and engaged learning that will prepare our students to be scientifically, mathematically, and technology literate in the 21st century world!

Mid-Del’s Vision for S.T.E.M  Education:

  • Provide professional development for teachers in S.T.E.M.
  • Provide resources to support teaching and learning in the classroom.
  • Establish active partnerships with local businesses, educational communities, and scientific communities in order to provide educational experiences that are rich in rigor and relevance to our students.
  • Expand the number of students that ultimately pursue advanced degrees and careers in S.T.E.M. fields.
  • Increase S.T.E.M. fluency in all students, including those who do not pursue careers related to the S.T.E.M. fields.

Elementary S.T.E.M. Clubs

  • S.T.E.M. Clubs have been added into our elementary schools to assist in starting the implementation of Inquiry-based learning into our instruction.
  • The Clubs will meet once a week, and engage the students in real world activities that develop critical thinking, innovation, creativity, self-reliance, and problem-solving skills in each student.
  • A S.T.E.M. Fair will be held at the end of the school year to allow students to demonstrate their innovative solutions to a variety of real world scenarios.
