English As a Second Language 

 

The Mid-Del English As a Second Language (ESL) program serves 345 students in grades K-12. Among these students there are 46 different languages spoken in their homes. Our service to ESL students and their families include:

• A FOCUS English class to meet specialized needs of secondary students

• Individual or small group tutoring sessions for elementary students

• Interpreters for parent/ teacher conferences

• Staff Development programs for classroom teachers who work with ESL students in the regular curriculum

• Bilingual dictionaries provided for parents, students, and teachers to help bridge a communication gap

• Multicultural resources to promote an understanding of cultural differences and rich cultural heritages among students

• ELL Pod Squad lessons checked out to secondary ELL students on iPods to extend learning opportunities

• Rosetta Stone software, ACT Prep software on check-out laptops to extend learning opportunities
