Welcome to the Mid-Del Academy There are many different reasons youth choose to come to Mid-Del Academy, but they all have something in common. Their academic, social and emotional needs, pregnancy and/or parenting responsibilities have not been met through traditional public education. The Mid-Del Academy program strives to keep students in school; supporting them through the achievement of their high school diploma. This is critical when you consider the consequences youth face when they drop out of school. The Alternative Academy offers students grades 9-12 in the Mid-Del School District, who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out of school, the opportunity to continue their education in an alternative setting. The program offers curriculum through direct instruction from certified teachers as well as computer-aided instruction using Apex Learning. Feel free to call us at (405) 739-1741, option 7. Our programs are held at Midwest City High School located at 213 Elm Drive.

Parents and members of the Mid-Del community, Friday’s tragedy in Connecticut has given our District the opportunity to review our safety measures at all of our schools. Our team met to discuss safety measures for our District. Our schools perform numerous measures to keep our children safe. A few of these measures are:
· Lock appropriate exterior doors. · Lock classroom doors. · Be aware/natural surveillance. (Be on the lookout.) · Check video cameras twice a day to make sure they are working. · Walk the campus. · Follow timelines for drills. · Enforce check-in procedures. · Review lockdown procedures. · Report irregularities. · Review safety procedures with staff.
Each of our schools will be undergoing an assessment of its security. We will be working with all of our staff and schools’ Safe School Committees to gather information that will be included in these assessments. We have in place excellent partnerships with our local police departments. As part of this partnership, Superintendent Deering and staff will be meeting with the Police Chiefs from Del City, Forest Park, Midwest City, and Oklahoma City to discuss our schools’ security measures and plan for any additional ideas that will extend our efforts in keeping our students and staff safe.
We will be conducting a thorough District-wide re-assessment of our safety measures over the next few weeks through the month of January. We are asking our students, staff, parents and community for any suggestions they may have. We will be taking all suggestions into consideration in our planning process. To submit an idea or feedback, please email your principal at ddidlot@mid-del.net. You may also contact the Superintendent’s office at sboyer@mid-del.net.
