Mr. Steve Tiller, 8th grade Math teacher, was awarded a $1,000.00 check by Cynthia Campbell, AVP/Manager of the Financial Empowerment Program, Tinker Federal Credit Union as the winner of the FIRST Financial Empowerment Teacher of the Year!  In addition, Mrs. Perry was awarded $1,000.00 for Del Crest.  The contest was open to Oklahoma teachers who teach financial literacy to students grades 7-12.  Mr. Tiller had to submit an application,  a one-page essay, a letter of recommendation, and a sample lesson plan.  In addition to the presentation on November 19th, he will be recognized at the December Board Meeting. 

Del Crest Middle School had the privilege of spending the day with Mr. Manuel Scott, one of the original Freedom Writers as depicted in the popular movie.  He addressed each grade level first relaying his special message, then had lunch with sixteen students.  Mr. Scott is also the author of a new book titled, Dream Now! Take Matters Into Your Own Hands.
