Welcome to Music and Art! My name is Amber Culbert and I have taught Art/Music for 10 years at Schwartz! I am happily married to Stephen. We have 2 crazy children together. Megan is 7 and in the 2nd Grade at Schwartz, and my son Liam is in Pre-K this year! I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2001 and am a HUGE Sooners Football Fan. I play several instruments, and majored in flute at OU. In my spare time I enjoy playing with my children, playing musical instruments, going to OU Football Games, and making crafts. Feel free to contact me if you ever have a question or concern about your child! I look forward to a great year full of MUSIC and ART!

THIS MONTH IN MUSIC:
5th Grade - We have begun our "Recorder Unit". Each 5th grade student has an assigned recorder and lesson book. Please listen to your child as daily assignments will be given! Encourage your child to bring their recorder each day of music class. We are so excited to begin this great musical experience!
4th Grade - We are working our way through "Rhythm Reader". In this lesson book we are building our music vocabulary. We are currently reading music containing quarter notes and rests in 4/4 time. We love playing the rhythms on the sticks!
3rd Grade - Just concluded our "Patriotic Unit". We learned "Fifty Nifty", "The Star Spangled Banner", and "Yankee Doodle Boy" to name a few! This month we begin our "Rhythm Reader Unit". Here, students will explore and read rhythms on percussion instruments while building a music vocabulary. We have begun reading quarter notes and quarter rests in 4/4 time.
2nd Grade - Just concluded learning a few patriotic songs to begin the year. We will perform "You're a Grand Old Flag" at the Sept. 2nd Stallion Stomp. We are also building a music vocabulary with the help of "Freddy the Frog". Soon, we will begin to read simple rhythms on the percussion instruments!
1st Grade - We have had a great time getting our wiggles out! Action songs such as "The Freeze", "Last Last Night", "Get Funky", and "Listen and Move" are among our favorites. We are building a music vocabulary with the help of "Freddy the Frog", and soon we will begin Kodaly singing games!
Kindergarten - Has had a great time shaking those sillys out with dance! Action songs such as "Listen and Move", "Get Funky", "The Freeze", "The Chicken Dance", and "The Freeze" have been our favorites! We've also had a great time playing Musical Hula Hoops and the 4 Corners game in the gym!
FRIDAYS - Are combined for special activities! Check the activity board in the Gym to find out what is happening "up the hill"!
The Schwartz Stallion Choir will rehearse during the Spring Semester. We will perform at the Mid-Del Elementary Vocal Music Festival at the Carl Albert High School Fieldhouse in April. A parent letter and permission slip will be sent home as the event draws closer.
If your child is interested in Choir for the full year, the Mid-Del Honor Choir is a great opportunity! Please contact me if your child would like more information!
