![]() Welcome to Ms. Nephew's Math Class. I’m looking forward to an exciting, productive, and fun school year. Our math program will emphasize the standards-based on the development and understanding of the real number system and on algebraic thinking. Students will acquire skills in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing signed numbers, including integers. Students will also solve multi-step equations involving real numbers. Problem solving in the course includes consumer applications of ratio, proportion, and percent. It continues to develop other important mathematics topics including patterns, functions, geometry, measurement, probability and statistics. It provides remediation for students who are below grade level as well as enrichment for advanced students. My expectations for achievement and behavior in the classroom are based simply on RESPECT. A young person who respects himself or herself will understand the value of learning and will participate in class, satisfy the requirements, and do his or her best. Respecting other people’s right to work and learn, as well as their property and time, will result in self-controlled and cooperative behavior. Assessments in 8th grade pre-algebra include the math journal, daily assignments, study guides, written and/or performance tests, class participation, cooperation and responsibility.
