In this class we will begin our discovery of the multiple locations and people around the globe. We will also learn about the basic landforms, how to read maps, and hopefully find an appreciation for the many unique cultures that are found on our planet.
Objectives for Students:
Indicate the symbols on maps and recognize their components
Distinguish between the characteristics of particular continents, regions, and cultures.
Examine the effect of humans on the environment
Indicate the physical systems of the earth and their effect on the environment
Our textbook will be our main guide throughout the course. We will also be viewing several different movies, TV shows, and internet sites to better learn our world.
We will use a standard grading format of
(A) 90%-100% (B) 80-89 (C) 70-79 (D) 60-69 (F) 0-59
Assignments must be turned in on time. If an assignment is late then there will be a 10% reduction of possible points. (100 points becomes 90 points)
Quizzes will be implemented throughout the different units that we will be covering and they will consist of 5-20 questions. I also reserve the right to give pop quizzes. Quizzes will cover the most recently covered material.
Tests will be given at the end of every unit. These will consist of 50-100 questions over the several chapters that we have recently completed. There will be plenty of review the several days before the test.
There are also a wide variety of fun activities and games that will help us to retain all of things that we will be learning such as: worksheets, Around the World (game), map projects, and several arts and crafts projects.
All students are eligible to receive extra credit for bringing a package (5) of pencil/pens or a box of Kleenex for the rest of the class. You will receive 5 points for pencil/pens and 5 points for Kleenex. This extra credit will be added to the next test. Students cannot receive more than 5 points per test increase.
For students who need more than a few points there are other assignments that can be done. Students must speak with me for the assignment details as it will pertain to our current unit.
